NIPANC is a charity working to improve the outcomes of pancreatic cancer in Northern Ireland by; increasing public understanding, promoting awareness of signs and symptoms, funding vital research and supporting both patients and their families.
The charity was founded in 2018, inspired by discussions within a support group that had formed 6 years previously. Members of the group would meet weekly in Belfast to discuss the impact of pancreatic cancer on themselves and loved ones. Realising that there was little to no support for those who had been affected by this cancer, they banded together to form NIPANC.
All 8 Board members, including the 3 founding members, are volunteers and the charity remains a totally volunteer-led organisation to this day, ensuring all funds raised go directly to charitable activity.

All funds raised go straight into charitable activity, maximising impact
PedalThePeriphery was formed in 2023 by Andrea Harrower and Cathy Booth. The sisters took on the non-stop cycle of 480 miles around Northern Ireland in 48 hours, in memory of two loved ones they had lost to pancreatic cancer.
Cathy and Andrea raised over £102,000 in 2023 – and given the huge support and interest it garnered – they decided it needed to become an event to help the pancreatic cancer community. In 2024 PedalThePeriphery became a team based event, allowing teams of 2-12 to take on the challenge in relay format.
NIPANC got Enthuse on board to help power the event in 2024 and in 2025, the charity wanted to raise even more funds and awareness.

The event evolved from a personal challenge to a charity staple
NIPANC was able to make use of Enthuse’s Fundraising and Events solution for PedalThePeriphery, giving the charity control of the entire participant journey, from sign-up all the way to fundraising. When the charity was looking to improve the event from its first year, it knew that event registration was an area that could be better – which is where Enthuse came in to help.
For PedalThePeriphery, NIPANC was able to provide participants with a flexible approach to entry given the varied team size, bespoke event registration form, and charity branding – perfect for growing brand awareness and building longer-term relationships with supporters. A key consideration for the charity was that the event registration form captured all the important data while still being simple for fundraisers to use.
The registration form enabled NIPANC to capture key information such as names, contact details, addresses, and cycling jersey sizes. More than that though, it allowed team captains to buy their ticket and tag in teammates to do the same. Or if they preferred, they could pay for the whole team as one. This was particularly helpful for those who were taking part as a corporate partnership rather than a collection of individuals.

NIPANC was able to collect all of the participants’ key details at registration
Once the entry fee had been paid, Enthuse’s integrated approach ensured that a branded fundraising page was automatically created when registration for the event was completed. This removed any barrier to fundraising and made it clear that collecting donations was just as important as getting the training miles in. By having pages automatically created for participants, the charity also saved time that would’ve been spent chasing riders to get one ready. What’s more, it prevented page duplication and the logistical headache of people fundraising on a mixture of platforms. Right from the off, the charity could be confident that everyone involved had what they needed to ask for donations.
When it comes to the fundraising pages, these were branded to the charity – just as the event registration had been – for a consistent supporter experience. The pages could also be customised to add a profile picture and their ‘story’, as well as post updates or link their Strava to show all their hard work to donors. Additionally, the communal fundraising event page also showed the charity’s overall target and had team leaderboards to help promote friendly competition.
Lastly, the charity made great use of Enthuse’s automated email journeys as part of their stewardship for the event. This would include sending examples of customised fundraising pages that showed best practice; inviting participants to strength and conditioning classes; as well as providing information about the route and encouragement to keep collecting donations. NIPANC even partnered with Fustle to offer a £4,500 off-road bike as a prize. Those who raised £1,500 were automatically entered into a draw to win the bike as an incentive to raise more. These emails went to every participant, ensuring the charity had regular contact to inspire activity or share important logistical information.
Overall, the charity was able to manage PedalThePeriphery through one platform, saving volunteers time and making the logistics of running an event more manageable.

Branded fundraising pages created a consistent supporter experience
The automatic fundraising page creation is a huge win! It was amazing to see that people were set up right away. It saves us time chasing fundraisers to create a page but more importantly, it means they’re collecting donations from the off.

PedalThePeriphery 2025 was a hugely successful fundraiser for NIPANC, raising a fantastic £185,000 – 105% of its initial target. This figure represented great progress for growing the event year on year with a 89% increase in fundraising income from 2024 to 2025. This could also be seen in the number of teams participating, which more than doubled from 9 in 2024 to 21 in 2025.
NIPANC started working with Enthuse to take PedalThePeriphery from strength to strength and the charity has already seen the benefits of this in just two years.
Such is the success of the event, the charity is working with Enthuse to build a bespoke microsite for PedalThePeriphery 2026 to take it to the next level and further increase fundraising. You can learn more about the event here.
The automated email journeys have been brilliant for us. It means we can guarantee every participant gets the same message, at the same time. That makes it really easy to plan out our stewardship activity.
